Ohlone Farm
Schools & Kids, posted by Carol, a member of the Palo Verde School community, on Oct 25, 2006 at 2:47 pm

I know that Ohlone School has a wonderful farm although I have never seen it myself. It has occurred to me that of all the years I have had children in Palo Verde, I have never heard of any class going on a field trip to Ohlone's farm. I wonder if this is something that is common to all the other elementary schools. I think that such a wonderful community resource is worth a field trip to. I have driven to many field trips, many quite some distance away, and I think this must be a great idea for the lower grades on a half day field trip. So, are field trips happening to Ohlone farm and if not, why not? There may of course be a good reason for this and if there is I am interested in finding out.

I'm a parent volunteer on the Ohlone Farm Council. In my years of working with the Farm, I don't think any classrooms from other schools have requested field trip to the Farm. It sounds like a great idea.

One issue is that the school does not provide any teaching staff on the farm to host a field trip or lead a program for students from another school. Ohlone students who use the Farm do so with their classroom teacher or with parent volunteers.
