and why did the Letterman thread get locked down?? Web Link There was nothing - nothing at all - offensive in the replies. It was leading to what could have been an interesting conversation. Why did they cork it?

Taliban is not a religion it is a political movement.
Islam is a religion, if you want to exclude candidates for elected office because they are Muslim and because some Muslims are Taliban, then you need an education in basic logic as well as the US Constitution.
Obama looks better if we leave religion out of it anyway.

I guess now that Palin's religious views are an issue, we should stop focusing on it. It was okay when Rev Wright's words could be used to bash Obama, but now that something has surfaced showing Palin's religious views, we should stop.
what about Palin's ties to separatists movements in Alaska--is that fair game?
Feel free to air Obama's "ties to Ayers and the Chicago mob"--they are only relevant because they are being used to try to show Obama in a bad light. If anything like that came up about McCain/Palin, they would not be considered relevant. Is that correct?

tj,
Taliban is a movement that bases its actions on a very strict and specific interpretation of Islamic religious teachings.
You may want to leave religion out of it, but there are religious adherents who believe quite strongly that religous beliefs should dictate how everyone lives.
You're trying to create a separation that for many people does not exist. In the case of Palin, her religious views influence her political views--thus, the extreme views on abortion and creationism.
Personally, I think the anti-witch blessing is pretty funny--wonder how the Wiccan vote will be affected.

I saw very little difference between that rite and every other religious service I have attended. Substitute carbon for witches and you have the Church of Gore.
