Read about the Palo Alto community in 1959....This book has been reviewed as an enchanting and charming novel AND it takes place in Palo Alto, California. The author Paula Sirois Cornell has managed to illustrate the beauty of an innocent childhood growing up as a child with Howdy Doody, Sky King, S&H Green Stamps, Pea Shooter, Hula Hoops, marble collecitons and the clubhouse with secret oaths. For many it will bring back the memories of the 1950's in Palo Alto which Paula has captured with amazing accuracy. For those who were not fortunate to live in this era, you will have the privilege to enter the world of Beech Street and be transported back to the 50's. Paula has written a beautiful story that you will not be able to stop reading. It will come to life as if you were watching a movie. Join Paula and her siblings, Margo and Michael, on a voyage through a magical and mischievous summer. You won't be disappointed! This is a book very much worth reading for all ages.

I already have my book....and wow....is it entertaining. If you liked the movie "Stand By Me" you will surely like reading this book. It is very entertaining and does throw you back into those wonderful, carefree, simple adolescent days of long ago. I am going to read it again!!!

BEECH STREET...The Summer of 59' is my book! Yes...It is about one summer in 59' in East Palo Alto when it was country and farmland....jersey cows, Clydesdale horses, Cooley Market, Ravenswood Recreation Center, Brentwood Elementary, Bell Street, University Ave, Clarke Street, American Band Stand, Elvis Presley, marble collections and more....those were some great times. Secret oaths in the clubhouse, smoking stogies in the old oak tree, chewing Double Bubble til your jar was sore, tar-stained feet and riding the city bus downtown to the picture show are just a mere token of the memories tucked away in this book. I just want everyone in the area to know there is a great little book with a lot of fond memories about your community from way back when...hope some of you will take the time to search it out... you can visit me on-line at www,paulacornell.com

Anyone and everyone in the community should read this book! It names the streets, the stores, schools, church etc from 1959, and the pictures in the book are a great plus! This book really brings to light what a rural little city Palo Alto was in 59' and the simple but wonderful childhood the author had. I very much enjoyed the story. It also brought back fond memories of my own childhood. This is a book that you will wrap your arms around and read more than once. I highly recommend it to read...I purchased mine from Amazon.com, which was faster than ordering through the bookstore.
