Trader Joes Rumour Around Town, posted by TJ Shopper, a member of the Palo Alto High School community, on Oct 4, 2006 at 4:16 pm
So the rumour goes (started perhaps in today's PA Weekly) that Trader Joe's is going to open at Town & Country. I for one would welcome that and speak as an occasional shopper and also a Paly Parent. One question, is anything going to be done about the dangerous entrance in and out of the centre opposite Paly? At present it is bad enough, but with the number of shoppers TJs would attract, I think something should be done.

If TJ's opens at T&C, JJ&F is toast. JJ's has already been screwed over by the developer that wants to develop on/near their current site. This is not a good decision for those that value our northern markets.
I'm a pro-development person, but what I don't understand is why we can't bring in TJ's at Alma, or Edgewood PLaza. We have a surfeit of food markets in this part of town (Whole Foods, JJ&F, Mollie Stone's, Country Sun, and at least 2-3 small neighborhood "in-and-out" type markets, like 7/11). TJ's will just more pressure on them. Why would they go in at T&C, when the Menlo Park TJ's is only 5 short minutes from ther, in Menlo Park.

TJs would fill a void at Town Country Village. We need a reasonably priced grocer. Love JJ&F, but I'd also shop at TJs for specialty items. HOpe the rumor is true.

How about a nice, big Starbucks? If I can't celebrate my gentrified suburban yuppie lifestyle with TJ's, then at least let me enjoy some comfy sofas and a grande latte!

I agree with ChrisK -- would LOVE to see TJ's go in at Edgewood Plaza!! In so many ways, it would be a much better location for Palo Alto and would in the long run probably do more for TJ's as it wouldn't take so much business from the MP location.

Wow, I'll be so happy if Trader's opens @ T&C, we need a good store to shop at that is close by besides JJ&F, I love JJ&F however, Trader's has the specialty items that I enjoy buying.

I agree that Town and Country needs some sort of anchor store -- but not only is there a TJ in Menlo Park, there's one in San Antonio Shopping Center in Mt. View and another in Sunnyvale. Unless TJ's is subscribing the Peet's Coffee House development method ( a shop on every corner, everytime you turn around), I'm not sure how much stock I'd put in this rumor.

I don't know about everyone, but I think a TJs would be great for T&C. I know that my friends and I would shop there (we're not overly impressed with the current options in T&C).
