Sports, posted by joe sparaco, a resident of the Midtown neighborhood, on Oct 1, 2006 at 4:27 pm

This sport is an Amateur Racing Event in which handycapped kids can compete on a level playing field with Kids without a handycap. FREE MOVIE and DESERTS will be available Sunday evening starting at 5:30pm at the Palo Alto Elks Lodge at 4249 El Camino Real. YOU ARE INVITED!

We will have Soap Box Derby cars on display and your kids can sit in them and if they are between ages 8 - 17 might possibly qualify to drive one of them in one of our up-coming events.

For info, Call Joe Sparaco (650) 493-7919 or go to www.svsbd.com

We lived in Akron Ohio for a short while, and know all about the Soap Box Derby. We plan to come to the movie portion of the evening and want to know if there are reservations required. Good stuff!

We had a blast this past weekend, and took Second against a favored car from Oregon. That car raced in Akron last year and took 5th place. Our "loosing" time was only 3/100ths of a second short of first. We raced six of our twelve cars in that Vallejo Rally Race. Our cars were very fast, all remaining in the running most of the day and heading into the finals. If you would have come to our clinic weekend before last, you might have been there with us. We had to leave six of our cars home because we didn't have kids to race them. If you have an interest in racing a Soap Box Derby car with our team, and want join our club, look us up on the web at www.svsbd.com and give us a call.

Our cars were very fast in Vallejo, and we won against some of the fastes cars in the Western United States. We beat the best cars from Oregon, all the way to San Diego. Our best finisher Tom Nelson of San Jose, took a second place and was beat by only 1/1000th of a second against a car that raced in Akron Ohio last year.

We are going to have a Championship event in Mt. View in June of '07 and are looking for kids and their parents interested in racing one of our "club cars" in that event. Our winners will compete for College Scholarships, Bicycles, Levi clothing, and other great prizes in Akron next July, and you can join our club for the asking.

Call me if you want to enjoy "The Ride of Your Life" and be the next Soap Box Derby Champion representing the Palo Alto Elks Lodge.
