looking for advice/opinions on best tahoe skiing
Issues Beyond Palo Alto, posted by wannaski, a resident of the College Terrace neighborhood, on Aug 3, 2008 at 10:46 pm

Hi Skiers/Boarders -- If you were going to rent for the winter season @ Tahoe - which mountain/ski town would you recommend and what do you like/love the best in the area? Also, how often do the roads around the Lake close? Do people rent @ one end but go all over or do roads get closed an you have to stay either North or south? We are a ski (no boarding-yet) family, kids and dad are expert. Like fine night-time play after fine powder day. Thnks for your input!!!

Squaw Valley has the most varied terrain and the greatest number of ski lifts. This is where I ski most of the time. However, if you are skiing with children Sugar Bowl, Alpine Meadows and Heavenly Valley are fun.

I would rent on the North Shore, however, consider the Donner Lake area because you can stop off on your way home to the Bay Area.

After storms they plow the main roads round the lake first. However, if you are in a cabin say in the Homewood area of North Store it can take a day or two to plow the residential roads.

Have fun!!!
