What are your top issues?
Issues Beyond Palo Alto, posted by a curious palo altan, a resident of the Southgate neighborhood, on Jul 28, 2008 at 2:27 pm

here's a little experiment - let's see if P.A. Town Square folks can play nice.

Consider this a survey, not a debate. Just to see where we're all coming from...

What are your top 3-5 issues in choosing a candidate? I'm thinking more state/national level issues here. Define your issues as broadly or as narrowly as you want, but try to keep it brief.

Mine would be:

• economic/tax policy

• environment/pollution

• education

• church/state separation (b/c religious-based interference guides a number of social issues - I'm against school vouchers and "faith-based initiatives," in favor of a woman's right to choose, gay marriage)

Survival as a nation and as a culture, individual economic freedom, limitation of government authority and, for me, the love of a good woman and children to be proud of.

I am with Walter. In his order. But including freedom of speech first in the line. Freedom of speech is the underpinning of the rest.

That is how I vote from city to national level. Period.

Respect for individual rights.

(A "right" is the right to take action without being subjected to force. It is not the right to some stuff, and it does not include the right to violate the rights of others.)

1) Correcting every single thing GWB has done over the past 8 years.

2) Building a forum filter to automatically filter out comments from Walt and "R", along with Mr. Nuke-Head Greg.

3) Swapping out the Giants and Niners for real teams.

Let me add to the list, the right to bear arms....in case someone tries to take away my right to free speech and individual liberty.
