What do folks think of "Bistro Basia"?

It's a superb restaurant, owned an run by someone who has operated a multi-star restaurant back east. It's easily one of the top 5 restaurants in Palo Alto, and very possibly the best.

Haven't tried it. The name "bistro" for a restaurant is running rampant. The insanity must stop!

The name "Bistro" stirs up pictures of tiny, intimate, restaurants with maybe 10 tables at most, possibly wrought iron round tables for 2. The menu should be small and no wine list, but a corkage fee for bringing your own wine and they supply the glasses. Anything else would be a misnomer in my mind.

Thanks for the recommendation and comments. We'll be reviewing Bistro Basia in the Weekly a little later on. (Of course we don't want to say exactly when so we don't blow the reviewer's cover, but keep an eye out for the story!)

I had dinner there last night, with my family. Very good, though also pricey. For the same price, I like Bistro Elan better, but it is very hard to keep up with Bistro Elan, IMO.

I recommend Bistro Basia, and I will go back, on occasion.

We ate there two nights ago. The food was outstanding. I agree that it is one of the top 5 restaurants in the area.

Down side. Prices for entrees $25 plus and minus. Appetizers and desserts also $10 plus and minus. Most wines unfamiliar to me, but the one we had was from New Zealand and very good.

For some reason we always had to signal our waiter. It seemed to me that no one waiter was assigned to our table - perhaps each thought another was keeping watch. However the waiters were most attentive when serving.

I took my family here for a birthday dinner and we enjoyed our meal very much. I had the salmon, family members had both the lamb and chicken dishes and found we them to be excellent.

The appetizers and deserts were a bit pricey but for a special occasion it was great.

I like the new configuration with the main door into the restaurant moved to the middle. When you're eating people aren't constantly walking by your table.

I agree with the previous postings the only downside is the name "Bistro Basia" will easily get forgotten amongst all the other "Bistros" in this town.
