When they make the movie of this election, who will play the leads?
Movies, posted by Resident, a resident of Another Palo Alto neighborhood, on Jan 31, 2008 at 10:30 am

Since we have such a dramatic election, with so many larger than life candidates on both sides (and the fact that there are candidates on both sides) when the movie is made, which surely will happen, what stars should fill the roles.

I think Glenn Close or Meryl Streep would make a good Hillary, with Will Smith doing an excellent Obama. Harrison Ford could be Bill Clinton with Tom Cruise as Edwards and Julia Roberts as his cancer stricken wife. On the other side, Tom Hanks would be Guiliani, Jack Nicholson for Bush, but I am a bit stuck on the rest.

If this movie had been scripted five years ago, it would have sounded like a far fetched farce. But, truth is wilder than fiction and the candidates make great movie material and a few oscars could be in the works.

What are the characters in this movie.

To start with we have an aging has been doing quite well against a couple of religious squeaky cleans with a heroic former NYC mayor.

On the other side, we have an african american (with more african and muslim background than american and protestant) against a woman from a powerful political dynasty, both potentially making history with a likeable also ran whose wife has serious health concerns.

In the subplot we have the sitting president acting as if there is no election going on while his vp is watching his own health problems and spending his time on headline hitting hunting trips.

Sounds like a far fetched movie or novel to me. I can almost see the blurb the publicists put out.
