Power connector blows out in Palo Alto

An electric overhead power connector sparked and then blew out shortly after 10 a.m. on Homer Avenue near Middlefield Road in Palo Alto.

When will they learn. Power cables need to be underground. Trees will always cause outages of some kind and the cost of repair plus the cost of inconvenience when this happens is ongoing. Putting the cables underground will soon wipe out these incovenient emergency costs.

How about flooding manholes, differential settlement, insulation failure from overloading, and digging errors. How about longer more expensive outages?
You can trim trees if you run utilities as a service not a statement. People offended by the appearance of overhead electric lines should get blinders to restrict their view o such objects.

The newspaper should put the date of the incident in the article. Looking at the posting date/time which is Wed. 10:58, and then the contents of the article, which includes a statement that it WAS clearned by noon, leads to confusion.
