Why the Valley is the World's premier high-tech region

Original post made by Resident on Jan 7, 2008

"The conventional wisdom is that the Valley became the world's premier high-tech region through the activities of indigenous garage-based entrepreneurs."

Is this the conventional wisdom? Is this "conventional wisdom" true or false?

Maybe Palo Alto should build some garages to lease to Stanford as a revenue-stream for Palo Alto.

Homebrew Computer Club started in Gordon French's Menlo Park garage. Of the 30 or so people there, only two did not become computer millionaires - Gordon and me.
