Christmas tree - collection of
Around Town, posted by Anna, a resident of the Downtown North neighborhood, on Jan 1, 2008 at 2:59 pm

How do I get rid of my Christmas tree? Can I just have it out on the curb on the day of my garbage collection? I could not find any info about what to do with my Christmas tree in the web site from the city of Palo Alto. Thanks for any response.

Leave it at the curb on your trash/recycling day. Not accepted if "flocked" or overly covered in tinsel. Must not be in any lengths longer than four feet.

The direction on how and when to do this have been in the utility bill inserts and in the local papers - repeatedly. If in doubt, call PASCO.

Holiday Tree Collection

Cut your trees in 4-foot lengths and remove tree stands, all ornamentation, tinsel and nails. Apartment and condominium complex managers and/or owners, please call GreenWaste at 650-493-4894 for information regarding tree collection locations for your complex.

For further residential garbage collection information, or for commercial holiday schedule, please contact GreenWaste directly at 650-493-4894.

Traditionally, Christmas trees should be displayed until 12th night, the 12th day of Christmas which is 6th January. Doing so beforehand is curtailing Christmas. It only starts on December 25th (or 24th arguably) up until then it is advent or preparation for Christmas. Please don't cut the Christmas season short. It is so sad to see them on the curb before the children go back to school.
