Oak Tree dropping too many acorns?

Original post made by Barbara on Oct 29, 2007

The acorn crop this year surpasses any I have seen on my back deck for 30 years. And they are dropping with such pressure that they make a loud, sometimes explosive, noise. Does anyone know if this is a sign of illness in the tree - kind of a last gasp?

The droppings are part of a natural cycle.

My husband and I think it makes our frontyard sound like the Blair Witch Project at night -- super creepy!

Alice B. is a registered user.

I'm having the same experience in the Salinas area. I have a call in to the plant pathologist at the local extension agent office for Monterey County. I'll post his response after I've talked with him.
