Hype, hype everywhere but not a drop to drink at Stanford

Original post made on Aug 20, 2013

Hype is what you make it. With three weeks before Stanford takes the gridiron for its first football game of the season, the Cardinal finds itself the subject of intense scrutiny from the major publications and analysts around the country.

Driving down El Camino Real, I noticed new banners promoting Stanford. I think these ads are excessive hype. This was in Palo Alto, but NOT on Stanford land nor in their campus vicinity.

Playing football is not an occupation for adults. That grown men spend their lives playing games is amazing. How can they pretend to be grown up if they spend their time playing games. Beating other people at a meaningless activity.
What a waste of human energy and talent.

Are you telling me that Stanford PAID for those banners all along ECR -- I know I saw them some distance from campus? Isn't ECR a "state highway" (odd term) or run by Santa Clara County? -There isn't one billboard owner to pay in order to have one ad. OR did City of Palo Alto just "let" them put up all these silly ads?!
