I've enjoyed seeing all the young people out there, although I'm curious to know if they are from Palo Alto and also from elsewhere.
My kids said the cookies are extremely sweet, and if you don't eat it fast enough, the cold ice cream makes the cookie hard.
They are not fans, and won't go back. Sticking to Baskin Robbins and Ricks!!
Was it really necessary to note that the woman had "blonde" hair? How about telling us the color of her eyes too?
These ice cream sandwiches are the BEST, so delicious! I dunno about waiting an hour but I have waited like 15 minutes, totally worth it.
Look on the bright side, GD. At least the blonde had enough sense not to wait in line for an hour.
Maybe they pointed out that she was blonde to contradict the stereotype about blondes being dumb? After all, she figured out it was dumb to stand in line that long? Maybe?
they said blonde because visual cues are the silicon valley culture. everyone profiles, poor, race identity, ''blonde''' asian, indian, techie, laborer. boxes little boxes. outside features are all people think about.....''blonde''.....
I saw one of these in Berkeley, the line was ALWAYS long, but I really wanted to try it, so now I can, Yay!
As people say, everything old is new again. I agree, with proviso that "everything" doesn't necessarily happen all at once, nor does it occur in unison. Remember the ice cream sales wars on University in the 1980's? Further down the El at evil T&C, Edy's was still better than the rest. Enjoy!
must be the hype, but I'm not impressed. cookies are too sweet, ice cream is just ok. lines, not so much. I suppose it's worth a try once to see for yourself. I'll pass.
I admire people w/the wherewithal to wait that long for dessert. I snuck off to a nice office park w/a pond for a dog walk last night, hoping - & failing - to catch a breeze. Anticipating the heat, a few days ago I baked some delicious shortbread-type cookies, perfect w/iced coffee or tea.
Not that anyone wants to bake in this weather, but this article is a reminder that it's easy & fun to make these treats at home - but it sounds like Cream's prices are low.
The draw is the social interaction. The alternative is a quart and a half of Dreyers mint chocolate chip on sale for $3.99 at Safeway and porking out alone in front of the TV.
There have been SO many ice cream or fro yo or gelato or whatever places over the years. This sounds totally overhyped. Well, a fool and his or her money are soon parted.
Never fails. Bash away. It's the Palo Alto sport.
How about this - I hope they succeed and remain a viable business in our city. Folks - PA gets sales tax income on ice cream...just sayn'.
That was formerly a Swensen's Ice Cream Shop and we used to go upstairs to the balcony to eat. Is the balcony open to the public or did they rope off the stairs?
I am surprised we have not heard the following complaints:
- too much traffic
- parking issues in neighborhoods adjacent to downtown
- the store being open until 2am
-- the long Lines hindering access to other businesses
- the store looks ugly ( too modern)
- that university avenue was so wonderful years ago
Too sweet, too hard too yucky, too long to wait....'Nuff said?
Are they INSANE!
This makes no GD sense. Completely baffled at why people would wait an hour in line for ice cream. I really thought they must have been giving their proceeds to a trendy cause or something. Or maybe there's cocaine in the ice cream. There's no explanation for this that I can see. Magical sigils?
I hope that it was a great ice cream sandwich if people were willing to wait over an hour for it!
I waited for over an hour yesterday at the new "Dickey's Barbeque Pit" in Mountain View yesterday (on N. Shoreline). I was weary by how long we stood in line for lunch at the Grand Opening, but the food made it worthwhile.
I hope that CREAM is worth the wait too!
i scream. u scream. we all scream for ....
i have a sore throat.
Went to Rick's for ice cream last night. Plenty of parking, 3 minute wait, great ice cream, great company, plenty of space to sit and eat near Piazzas. Who needs to go anywhere else!
saw the long twice while driving through university avenue, and finally took kids them this thursday.. we waited one hour, it is too sweet, not worth it, would not go again

Finally people are not complaining so much. I think that people in Palo Alto just have time to be negative all the time....and I think they are starting to change for the better...albeit temporarily
