Why is an article about a proposed Midtown trail re-posted with no comments allowed?

Original post made by Midtowner on May 4, 2013

On May 2nd, the Palo Alto Online editor posted a story about the proposed Matadero Creek trail in Midtown. The story is at:

Web Link

Following the story, several Midtown residents posted comments pointing out that the people opposed to the trail do not represent all of Midtown inhabitants, contrary to what the article seemed to imply. I thought this was a worthwhile discussion. My family, among other Midtown residents, would love to have that bike trail along Matadero Creek.

Lo and behold, the original story has now been eliminated from the front page, re-posted in its entirety under a new title, and the comment thread to this new article is locked.

What does this mean? Does Palo Alto Online not want legitimate Midtown residents to assert that they like the project? Are we only allowed to oppose it? This really is strange... I have to wonder if the editor is one of the few residents opposed to this project. I am more and more disappointed in this forum.

@ resident

I know, but it's been removed from the front page where it's been reposted (identical article) with the thread locked, as if someone wants the comments to the original posting removed a direct link to the front page, in other words "burried" somewhere off the front page.

This is what bothers me. It's tantamount to burying the comments. People coming to Paloaltoonline will most likely now only see the article on the front page, with the thread locked, and with no direct link to the comments by Midtown residents who like the plan of a bike trail along Matadero Creek.

All fixed. Thanks for bringing this to our attention. We had some coding issues. Comment-away!

Actually, I wish the trail could be longer, through Midtown and Barron Park until it could go no further.
