Marsh Mosquitos back for a second year of feasting?

Original post made by Mr.Recycle, Duveneck/St. Francis, on Apr 28, 2013

I was over at Greer park this morning and got nailed by mosquitos - half dollar size welts on my hands which was about the only available exposed skin. Were the flood gates fixed, or are we looking at year two of the marsh mosquitos feeding on us?

I also had mosquitos biting through my clothes last week at JLS and this week in my backyard at midtown. Is there anyone in charge of mosquito control, whom I can call to report this issue?

We had a BBQ party last evening, and most of our guests ( us, too) have welts today. This is only the second time in 15 years this has happened, the first being last year. It was not a particularly wet year, so what's up with this?

The creeks where the mosquito's breed are maintained by Santa Clara County, try calling Vector Control.

We passed a bond measure to manage the creeks.

Hi everyone,

I'd be interested in hearing more about your recent mosquito experiences. Please email me at evansusteren@paweekly.com if you'd like talk about them.

Thanks!

Not surprised about JLS. It's been a dry year, and that campus perpetually floods even in small rains. If they've turned on the landscape watering, the mosquitos are probably in heaven, nothing drains there. It was a mosqito hotspot last year, too. They're going to fix the drainage over the summer, but probably not soon enough to prevent the mosquitoes!
