My sincere sympathies to the family and friends of the deceased.
Please, can anyone confirm that this was not a high school student?
As an FYI, the Caltrain twitter and the Weekly retweeted is not the official Caltrain twitter--it is one operated by riders, so I don't know if that can qualify as Caltrain announcing on Twitter.
Please do not emulate this.
Things do get better.
You are good.
You are loved.
I've been there.
I'm glad I'm still here.
Agree with "please no." I've been there too in high school. No love in my family, no praise, no friends at school (not worthy). There's too much good in life to need to leave. I still struggle with happiness and always will, as I am a perfectionist and wish to change that.
The link below has an 2011 article about suicide survivors' regret: ". . . found that the majority of them immediately regretted their decision. It’s a 4 second fall-it’s plenty of time to think about what they are doing."
In addition, "Through verbal cues and gestures, a person who is suicidal is looking for someone to talk to. A young man who was interviewed for the article said that if one person smiled at him as he walked to the bridge, he would not kill himself. No one smiled."
I'm so sorry Miki's is going to close! The "hidden" parking in back of the market didn't identify it as a place for the public and driving past on Alma you'd never know it was a market. The poor design was part of the problem. People in the burbs have a visual of what a market looks like, and this wasn't it.
I suspect there was another one last evening as each train that went by was blowing its horn.
Such a harsh way to depart the planet and so very hard on others. I hope it was not intentional.
My heart goes out to all who were affected by each of the many passings of this nature.
As with previous morning Caltrain incidents, the news helicopter arrival around 7:40 was my first hint.
As with previous incidents, the sound of sirens this morning and not hearing the train running on schedule was an indication.
To any who are thinking it, don't do it!
Those left behind, even casual acquaintances, will be and are devastated by such actions. You are more loved than you know.
Even those who only know of you through their friends, care.
Thanks for your comment. The "announcement" sentence has been removed from the story.
"You are more loved than you know."
And therein, the problem. Suicide may feel like the only way to get people to care. Albeit a little too late.
This was NOT a high school student.

we need fewer "guards" in this world, and more "smilers"....can you imagine a world in which you are PAID to stand at the crossing and greet people as they go past, help them if need be? We need HAPPY people to do that to, not scolds. And the stupid expensive yellow gates and signs...when there is no fence....and i'm not saying a fence is needed...it's not...love is
Every time I smile at some stranger on the street, they ask me for money. Maybe it's just Palo Alto.
Dom was a class act at Gunn, I never would have thought he was troubled. He will be very missed.
