What are the associate members suppose to do in the interim?
On one side, there are some residents, not many, who value our existence, our camaraderie, and our values and would like to see our participation in Greenmeadow including the ability to vote and be on the board.
On the flip side though, there are residents who have been so bold as to discuss "abolishing" us as they so put it. How much notice will we be given if Greenmeadow decides to eliminate us? Should we even register this year?
Most, however, know they desperately need the associate members because we provide 70% of their revenues. They want our money not necessarily our friendship.
It seems the wonderful community spirit can't extend past the borders of Greenmeadow (especially this last year). I wish, just once, the residents would pick up any Meadowlark and read it from the eyes of an Associate Member. The wall between Greenmeadow and the greater Palo Alto community keeps growing.
After all the planning sessions, the message that we are hearing loud and clear can be summarized as:
Be patient and keep paying please. If our future plans
ends up with associate members in it, then we may
look into ways to treat you fairly.
Be careful Greenmeadow. The "build and they will come" excitement might just backfire.
It's not enough to NEED us, you have to WANT us too.
