Does anyone beside me want to shout NO! Whenever, after a disaster, presidents, governor and assorted politicians rush to the disaster scene to prove that they care? I was first ticked when, during the Loma Prieta aftermath the VP visited the Marina fire. At the time, another pumper would have been more helpful than a VIP visit with the requisite security. Bush’s overflight of Katrina was ridiculed, and so he came back and choppered in, when the same effort to bring in more workers or supplies would have better served.
I encourage politicians to take the word of the professionals on the site that a disaster did happen. Let them stay at their control center where they can better provide direction when needed, and not divert recovery efforts.
