Why did Hyderabad House on University close?
Restaurants, posted by Curious, a resident of the Downtown North neighborhood, on Aug 28, 2012 at 3:26 pm

Anyone know why Hyderabad House on University closed? There is a handwritten sign on their door.

I liked it and would go there regularly. It seemed like it had a regular clientele.

Too bad, I hate it when a place I like closes.

Maybe they could not make a go of it. [Portion removed by Palo Alto Online staff.]

University Avenue is a retail disaster. There are so many bums down there. I would never take my wife down there, anymore. Downtown has turned into a booze trap and so many sketchy characters, after dark.

PAPD used run the bums out of there, but no more.

Fogetta 'bout it!

It IS a shame, I liked it, too. But with the outrageous rents on University Ave, coupled with the ever-increasing Palo Alto business taxes, it was probably no longer possible to make a profit. Many businesses, even successful ones, have left PA because of the oppressive business taxes.
