Strange coincidence: Two local VB standouts end up in Philly
Sports, posted by Volleyball Fan, a resident of the Crescent Park neighborhood, on Aug 1, 2007 at 5:57 pm

Just heard this story this afternoon and thought those of you who remember these two young women would enjoy it.

Colleen Carey, a 2003 graduate of Palo Alto High School, attended the University of Delaware and graduated with a degree in Medical Technology (awarded with honors). Colleen was a member of various Paly volleyball teams during her high school years, and was named First Team All-League twice in the De Anza division of the SCVAL. She was recruited to play volleyball at UD, but was seriously injured during her freshman year, so she turned to coaching club teams instead. Most recently, she coached the Brandywine Bombers, a 16-and-under team that just missed qualifying for the Junior Olympics.

Sara McGee, Stanford's standout middle blocker through several runs at the national championship, earned an NCAA scholarship to continue her studies after graduating with a degree in Human Biology. She went on to become a registered nurse.

As it turns out, they are both currently employed at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. Colleen, who recently passed a national certification exam as a medical technologist, reported some hematology results to Sara, who is an RN in the Coronary ICU.

I hope to hear that they end up playing volleyball together sometime soon.
