Employee costs/labor contracts are crippling Palo Alto

Original post made by Jim H. on Aug 22, 2012

Front page story in the Mercury News today Web Link

Of Bay Area Governments, Palo Alto paid the 4th most to retiring employees in 2011. The three governments above them were 1) San Jose, a city over a million people, 2) Santa Clara COUNTY, and 3) Solano COUNTY.

Palo Alto paid $1.6M for unused sick and vacation time. The next closest city was Redwood City at $800K, HALF of what PA paid.

Peter Carpenter is a registered user.

This will continue as long as the citizens of Palo Alto continue to elect people who are endorsed by the unions and as long as the citizens do not demand salary, pension and benefit reform.
