So did Sun Micro never have employees? I don't get the whole "environmental" "neightborhood" issues...I understand having an outreach type of program that can include internships etc., but this is just a little ridiculous! Trying living on E Meadow and getting out of your driveway in the morning! HA!
I wish they would have stayed in PA so we could get the tax benefits and whatever other benefits might come out of a company like this. Look at what Google did for Mtn View...free internet for the city (even though it's not the greatest coverage - it's still something).
I think they have just cried a little too much about this.

I've been fortunate to have been able to attend a couple of meetings with the FB folks as part of a group. Here is some of the info they shared with us. Currently, 47% of FB employees take public transportation, ride share or ride the FB commuter buses (a la Google). Their goal is to reduce traffic including eliminating existing on-site parking spaces. Projections are for $80M being pumped into San Mateo County per year from construction jobs, dining and hotels, etc. They are recruiting worldwide and it takes 7 interviews to get hired. Recruits are here for on FB's tab. The Facebucks program is yet another example of the good faith they are demonstrating. FB is welcomed with open arms by every other community in the country that they venture into, yet MP is all but extorting them. If I'm a MP retailer, I'd be giving the FB employees incentives to come to MP. They can drive straight out the campus into downtown Palo Alto which has a heck of a lot more going on for the FB 20-somethings than our sleepy little burg that shuts down by 10. If the MP Council loses FB, we'll be the laughing stock of the country. Oh and BTW, every time FB is mentioned in a news article on TV or radio it's "Menlo Park based Facebook the social media giant"! I don't work for FB and am not affiliated in any way with them, but I work in MP and see great benefits to the community at large and our merchants. Attend the Council meting on 4/17 and show your support! To see what FB has already done for our city, go to Facebook/menlopark.
