piano teacher recommendation Schools & Kids, posted by zs, a resident of the Midtown neighborhood, on Mar 21, 2012 at 11:16 pm
Can the board recommend good piano teachers in/around palo alto? My kids have been playing piano for about 3 -4 year, with the older one (11 years old) being an intermediate level player. Thanks.

Have you checked out Community School of Music and Arts in Mountain View? Great music teachers. Close to Palo Alto -- just off San Antonio Road near Central. www.arts4all.org

If you want private lessons in your home, I would recommend talking with Carlo Dean. Although I'm not sure he has any space left in his schedule... Reasonable prices. Patient. Understands the level of the student. He also teaches guitar. Web Link

Tricky subject - it's best to join the studio of a teacher with solid musical education and skills AND good teaching ability for level desired.
Best also if s/he matches or identifies well with the student. I suggest taking time on this one and meeting with a variety of potential teachers if being successful on piano, advancing with correct form, and being happy and enjoying music for life are all important to your family.
Sometimes people commute to good teachers.
Some teachers are found by word of mouth - they don't need to advertise. So take some time.
What curriculum is used? (yes, there are choices on that)
Is competition desired? - then that should be checked out with the teacher (what competitions, when, how fast does the teacher require students to advance)- is all of this just for college applications?
OR is it a priority to have correct form, (and hopefully, enjoy oneself) and advance at the pace of the individual student?
Some teachers have written agreements (for parent AND student) and studio requirements so ask to see those in advance.
