Random Vandalism
Crimes & Incidents, posted by Anon, a resident of Another Palo Alto neighborhood, on Mar 11, 2012 at 12:13 pm

I went to my car this Sunday morning, parked in the curb in front of my house. This is considered a safe neighborhood, some of the incidents that have taken place in other parts of town have not been a problem around my area.

I am posting this without any attribution so that I neither encourage or discourage what I found this morning when I went to my car.

Sometime between late Saturday evening and this daylight saving time Sunday morning, some asshole decided to smash out my rear left lamp on my car. No other damage, it came across to me as just a random act of vandalism.

I contacted the PAPD at a reasonable hour on Sunday morning, this was not a 911 incident. The dispatcher with whom I spoke told me it was not at a level to justify an officer coming by, and I could file a report at the police station during the week for insurance purposes.

I raked and swept the debrise, and likely face a few hundred bucks of expense, even with insurance.

I actually want to give PAPD credit for telling me that this did not "warrant" the expense of sending an officer out. I truly appreciate our police department, and this experience I had this morning tells me there is some judgment in how they handle things, not reactive.

Still I am pissed.
