That terrible stretch of road on El Camino between Embarcadero and Stanford Mall Around Town, posted by A Car Driver, a resident of Menlo Park, on Feb 7, 2012 at 7:00 pm
Everyday I drive on El Camino northbound between the crossroads at Embarcadero and Quarry Road at Stanford Mall. My tires get a beating every time. There is an especially sharp ridge just after the University Ave on ramp. Why is the road surface so poor on this stretch? Anyone know of any plans in the works to repair it in the near future.
Hate to be a whiner, but tires are expensive to replace.

That stretch - and most of - El Camino is a state highway and is the responsibility of Caltrans. And you're correct, that segment is a mess and has been for years as is the adjacent landscaping. Call Sen. Simitian's office. Most people think it's Palo Alto's 'fault' - and PA should tell Caltrans to get it fixed.
