Annoying horn sound at 3:30am?
Around Town, posted by Adobe, a resident of the Adobe-Meadows neighborhood, on Jan 27, 2012 at 6:42 am

This morning at about 3:30am, I heard this horn sounding in the distance. I thought it might be from CalTrain, but then it just kept on sounding every 20-30 seconds or so. It sounded like it was pretty far away, but it was still loud enough to keep me awake, which I definitely did not appreciate at that time. I feel sorry for those living closer to it.

Did anyone else hear this? Does anyone know where it was coming from? We can't be woken up in the wee hours of the morning by stuff like this. Please, somebody, make it stop!

It's most likely the foghorn out in the Baylands. I can hear it too. It will stop when the fog clears.

It was very foggy early this morning, so the fog horns were sounding. Wake up Adobe, learn to live in your environment, and quit complaining!!!

Pat, thanks for the info, that solves the mystery! "Impossible People", yes, I did wake up; the foghorn woke me up.

> quit complaining!!!

Sounds like you are the one complaining. Why does Palo Alto need a fog horn? I have been here for 40 years and I cannot remember ever seeing a boat around this area in clear weather, why do we need a fog horn so you can whine about people complaining about being woken up for no reason?

I remember seeing a yacht (big sail boat) wrecked against the rocks near Moffett Field. It was out there for months, maybe 15 or 20 years ago. Don't know if there is a fog horn down there.

I posted about the noise last year, January 17. It's seems it's something we have to deal with every January. . .

Thanks, I was wondering what the noise was. It's not loud in my area, it sounded like a fog horn, but why would anyone need a fog horn in Palo Alto?

Toby: Take a peek at a map of Palo Alto and its surrounding terrain for a clue.

Toby--do not forget the extensive health risks of having foghorns going off--I understand that they are worse than cell phone antennas!!!!!

Same discussion a year ago.

There are several fog horns on the bay - the closest to PA are the Dumbarton horns. Been there since the bridge was built!

I kinda like the horns reminds me of living on the coast! Who would think foghorns were needed in palo alto but it makes sense with all the bay channels. I just never noticed it in past years! And I've been here since the '70's! LOLREMINDS ME THAT WE LIVE AMONG NATUre still. There is some serenity in it!
