Feedback on Summer Camps for Incoming First Grader
Schools & Kids, posted by SummerCamper, a resident of the Palo Verde neighborhood, on Jan 4, 2012 at 6:53 pm

Greetings: We hope to enroll our six-year-old daughter in a day camp this summer, and I know the enrollment period for many of them begins in the next few weeks. I’m wondering if anyone in this group has any feedback on the following camps or any other good camps in Palo Alto. All feedback, both negative and positive, is greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Galileo Camp

Jefunira Camp (at Nixon Elementary)

EdMo Camp (at Palo Verde Elementary, new to Palo Alto in 2011)

J-Camp at Palo Alto JCC

Jefunira is expensive, but has the best counselors and best trained and supervised counselors. It is my child's favorite camp by far of all the camps she has attended. Jeff Gamble, the Director is a wonderful human being. He creates imaginative activities and traditions. It is a place of pure fun and lasting friendships with both campers and counselors.

Check out the offerings from Palo Alto's Parks and Rec; there are many and varied. They have a lottery for registration -- lottery date is early February. Here's the link to get catalog: www.cityofpaloalto.org/enjoy

My son (3rd grade now) had a good experience at Galileo at Walter Hays and at Foothills Day Camp via Parks and Rec. He likes outdoor stuff and tinkering. JCC has good aquatics facilities. Family YMCA on Ross also has camps that we have not tried.
