Holiday feature: Best bets for pets

Most people consider their pets -- be they dogs, cats, birds or bunnies -- part of the family. And according to a recent AP-Petside poll, more than half of pet owners in America will give holiday gifts to their pets this year, spending around $46 on toys, treats and other goodies per pet.

Many thanks to Karla Kane for this lovely piece. It is good to remember our four-footed (and otherwise) companions at holiday time, as well as all the critters in shelters awaiting homes.

Kudos to those who help animals through donations, volunteer work, special treats, or just plain love.

The degradation of Christmas continues unabated.
And money to burn on creatures who don't know the difference. The over attachment to a pet is not natural.

Yeah, pets may not notice the difference, but the economy does Somehow I think this is a small contribution to the "degradation" of Christmas. Just listening to holiday-related news this time of year shows the degradation- indulging pets, imo, is the least of it.
