Palo Alto's state champs both suffer defeats

Palo Alto's two defending state championship teams returned to reality as both suffered streak-ending losses on Friday night. The girls' volleyball team saw its two-year, 27-match win string end in the second round of the Mitty Invitational while the Monarchs' football team ended Paly's streak of 15 straight wins at Foothill College.

I watched the Paly game and it was a good effort by Paly. The real disappointment was in the defense. Poor tackling and a weak secondary will make for a long season for Paly. Most disturbing was the defense got burned on the same play multiple times. Paly has to play smarter football if they want to compete this year. All the teams that play against Paly will attack that weak secondary.
