Volunteer Reading Tutors Needed
Original post made by Michelle Cale, Duveneck/St. Francis, on Sep 5, 2011
Reading Partners has centers in 13 elementary schools on the Peninsula, in which reading tutoring is provided by volunteers to students who are between 6 and 24 months behind grade level. It's a very professional organization, using a thoughtful, structured curriculum that was originally created with the Stanford School of Education.
Two new centers are opening this month, one in Redwood City and one in Sunnyvale. Reading Partners needs new tutors to help the students - for example, we still need 25 new tutors for the San Miguel Elementary School in Sunnyvale. You need to be a high school junior or older (many retired people tutor), with fluent English, and no criminal record. Please consider this volunteering opportunity. You won't regret it!
