School Board Opening
Issues Beyond Palo Alto, posted by Political watcher, a resident of Los Altos, on Jun 12, 2007 at 10:14 am

TO: MVLA Union High School District Community

FROM: Dr. Barry Groves

DATE: June 12, 2007

SUBJECT: Board member vacancy

School Board Member David Williams has tendered his resignation to the Mountain View-Los Altos Union High School District effective June 30, 2007. In his resignation letter, Dave commented that he is “extremely proud of what MVLA has accomplished during my tenure including facilities improvements in new construction and classroom upgrades, strong district financial stability and, most importantly, continuous improvement in student achievement in all of our schools and alternative programs.” Board member Williams cited career and family responsibilities as reasons for his stepping down at this time.

MVLA Board President Susan Sweeley praised Dave’s tenure on the school board. She stated that “Dave has always been dedicated to ensuring that ALL students receive a quality education. We will miss Dave on our board and wish him all the best. He is an advocate for the average student who sometimes does not get the attention of others. With his background in business, Dave was an especially good resource on financial and facilities issues.”

Dave has served as a member of the MVLA Board of Trustees for nine years since his election in 1998. Previous to his election to the high school district board, Dave was a member of the Board of Trustees of the Whisman School District in Mountain View.

The Board of Trustees will fill the vacancy through a provisional appointment. Interested parties may contact Mary Moore at (650) 940-4669, to obtain a packet of information that includes the district application, procedure to follow in completing an application, and a timeline for appointment. Information on the opening and application can also be found on the district website at www.mvla.k12. ca.us. The deadline for submitting applications to the District office is 4:30 p.m. on July 16, 2007. Applicant interviews with the board have tentatively been set for August 6 and 7.
