There are many Republicans and Democrats here in Silicon Valley. Recently Google as been hosting Presidential candidates from the Democratic side, I don't know what their plans are with the Republican candidates.
As I was reading about recent candidate visits, such as Giuliani in Burlingame, it occurred to me that there have been at most a handful of public events in Silicon Valley in which Bush or Cheney were the "guests of honor." I contrast this with the Clinton/Gore time, when both men seemed to be here pretty regularly, for both public and private get togethers. And I don't think it was just because Chelsea was at Stanford.
My perception is that both Bush and Cheney have a distaste for California, but this goes to another level around why the world epicenter of innovation and technology has not been on these guys' radar screen? Lots of money in these parts, in addition to ideas and businesses that are increasingly an important part of the US and global economy. Blind spot?

Bush and Cheney have always been instinctively drawn to the redneck states, especially the south. California, with its progressive, multi-ethnic cosmopolitan mentality and libertarian attitudes toward matters such as sexuality and the right to privacy is so diametrically opposite to who and what they are, they obviously feel like fish out of water here. The more they stay away, the better off we are.

In a more perfect world, California would be an independent country, not part of the USA, and have a larger and more prosperous economy that the other 49 states combined. I know that it's extremely difficult to secede, but we need to start at some point.

You have no idea how much most of the rest of the country would dearly love California to secede. You would get no arguments. Nor would we get any help when we sank financially.
BTW, Bush doesn't come here because he isn't stupid. He recognizes hopeless. There is NO WAY this state is going to vote for a Republican president, so why waste his time?
I love California, the land of tolerance and acceptance, where people feel free to label any Republican state as "redneck". I can just imagine what would happen if I named Democrat states with a derogatory term.
Clearly a disconnect in understanding the breakdown of the statistics concerning the educational level and type of educational degree of the average Republican, versus the average Democrat.

The Republicans used to have some good ideas: a tendency toward individual rights, capitalism and small government. Since they have given up these ideas and have been taken over by the religionists, I agree they don't deserve our support. Of course, the Democrats don't either with their big government socialistic programs. We have a void.

Ever since Willie Brown conned California Republicans to trade party interest for safe districts, our republicans have been useless to the national party.

Ever since the Puritans washed ashore near Plymouth Rock the whole political process hasn't been the either. Too many special interest groups I suppose.
