Guy Consolmagno lecture canceled

Original post made by Tyler Hanley, digital editor of Palo Alto Online, on Feb 4, 2011

A talk slated to take place tonight (Feb. 4, 2011) featuring Vatican astronomer Brother Guy Consolmagno, Ph.D., has been canceled, organizer Mary Coady announced. The talk -- entitled "God, Astronomy and the Search for Elegance" -- was scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at the Lucie Stern Center Ballroom on Middlefield Road. Consolmagno is unable to travel due to inclement weather conditions in Dallas, Texas, and the talk will be re-scheduled, likely for the fall, Coady said.

"Do we really want someone from the vatican in palo alto?"

That's a very strange question. Are you an Islamist?

No, kirk,i am not an "islamist". Given the vaticans recent criminal history and the fact that the parties involved in the sex abuse scandals reach the highest levels of the vatican, including the past and present pope, I do not think we need someone from that tainted organization lecturing us.
