Incompetence of Secretary of State and SC Registrar of Voters

Original post made by Ze'ev Wurman on Nov 2, 2010

I am astounded at the technical incompetence exhibited by the offices of California Secretary of State and the Santa Clara Country Registrar of Voters. It is now 10 pm and the SoS site is crashed due to overload since 8 pm, while the RoV site for election results has not even come alive since the promised 8 pm.

Will heads roll? They should!

back in the day when I was walking to school up hill in the snow both directions, election results took a week. You're being spoiled. Frankly I'm glad they dont waste our money on servers that are only useful every other year. [Portion removed by Palo Alto Online staff.]

And this deficiency got past the tests how???
I am beginning to wonder if it is not just the East and lake states that play games with the vote.

"50 + Long Time Resident"

Reread my post. I dont have a problem with the time its taking. I did not say I did not like it here. SV has been very very good to me.

I just pointed out, that back in the day, election results took a week, and it was ok. Now we get them overnight and that should be fast enough, given the logistical complexity. Now if you dont recall the 60s and 70s when some results took days then you are not as old as you claim.

Why should heads roll. As "around the block" said, you used to have to wait at least overnight and often longer for results. Just think about people where there are hotly contested races where there are endless recounts. Be patient. Be glad you get the results relatively quickly.

Of course, maybe you have money on the outcome and are anxious because of that...

Why should heads roll? Perhaps you are right.

We are so used to incompetence in this state that perhaps they should be rewarded. So what that CALPADS burned through 100+ million during almost a decade producing nothing -- we can always send people to survey for the data we really need. The Governor should have allowed it keep burning money rather than veto it. So what that we have approved money for BART to San Jose perhaps ten years ago and still no BART in sight -- we can always take a bus across the Dumbarton. So what that we have approved money for high speed rail but the money won't probably cover even half of it -- we can always take a horse cart to LA.

Perhaps you are right. We get exactly the incompetence that we deserve and that we vote in time after time. I think we should spend more money on increasing benefits to those oh-so-competent public servants!
