Swiss put their HSR in BIG tunnels
Palo Alto Issues, posted by why can't we, a resident of Another Palo Alto neighborhood, on Oct 15, 2010 at 10:50 pm

To all those out-of-town commentators going on and on about how we need HSR to bring us into the 21st century, that we need it to keep up with other countries, but that we can't somehow put a tunnel through the most sensitive and densely settled areas of the Peninsula, here's what the Swiss are doing:

I think if we want to keep up with other countries, universal healthcare should come before HSR.

This is marvelous and just shows that we are behind the rest of the world.

California is not Switzerland, we don't have anywhere near the talent and expertise that the Swiss have. According to your web link it took 20 years. Do we really want the Peninsula torn up for 20 years?

This new Gotthard tunnel will carry mainly freight from Germany to Italy, our HSR is only carrying passengers. Freight is where the money is.
