Adios Midtown ARCO Gas Station Paul Losch's Community Blog, posted by Paul Losch, a resident of Palo Alto, on Aug 25, 2010 at 4:25 pm Paul Losch is a member (registered user) of Palo Alto Online
I drove along Middlefield today and saw that the long dormant ARCO gas station was being razed.
It has been an eyesore for years, so I view this as progress. What I don't know is what the plans are for that land parcel.
I would have loved to see it built out with a city owned and operated gymnasium, to accmodate the demand by volleyball and basketball teams that have to go outside of Palo Alto to play many of their games--we just don't have the capacity here town to meet the requirements of such teams and leagues.
I suspect the developer of the property has other plans for the place. Anybody know what those plans are?

Resident,
Thanks for the information. I do have a day job and cannot track every thread.
I am of the opinion that the plan as described is a bad use of the site. Just another example of the developers having different incentives and motivations that may not be in the best interests of the community at large.

A marvelous opportunity for someone to buy this property and give it to the city.
