What I've learned:
I can have passion about a real issue that effects me, my children, my community and my property, and in the end it doesn't really amount to a hill of beans for all the difference I can make. I can try hard, really hard, to use what I have available to me, toward a just cause, and it doesn't measure up to those who have money, influence, or more political know how than I do.
What DOES it give me? An addiction to a poisonous online chat forum that solves nothing but creates great animosity. Takes me dangerously close to losing my cool, and my reputation. Takes me away from what matters, which is my family, my work, my home.
So, I say farwell. I will go back to being a non-political animal, uniformed, and utterly unconcerned about the political happenings around me. I'll do my laundry, pay my bills, take my kids to the park. I won't worry about the financial health of the school district, the programs they offer (or cancel), the boundary lines, the facilities they open, close or remodel, the number of kids in the school, or the number that get turned away. I leave it now to someone (anyone) more compelled to fight the tide than I.
I will not log on to this forum (I'll put a quarter in the jar everytime I fight the urge. Perhaps soon will have enough to go to Disneyland.)
I have hereby drowned in the turbulent rip tide surf that is this community's political bickering, incompetence and selfish self interests. I'm just all done with it, it is much stronger than I, driven by forces I don't understsand and can't change.
I'm going to watch American Idol. Sanjai just got voted off.
