University Ave. apartment complex on fire Crimes & Incidents, posted by Anon., a resident of the Crescent Park neighborhood, on May 31, 2010 at 8:29 pm
I just drove back from downtown and there is a huge plume of smoke and trees on fire on or near University. It looks terrible. Does anyone have any more information?

I think it was right on University near or just east of Middlefield. I can smell it and see it clear over near Eleanor Park. I think it is being put out now appears to be less smoke.

Yep, it is two doors down from us. Pretty big and the entire roof has gone but the fire department got there quickly and seem to be getting it under control. I was told that it started out as a kitchen fire.

It looked terrifying. I always just feel terrible when I think of coming home and seeing a crowd around my house and all my belongings and stuff gone ... what a horrendous experience that would be. Let's hope it's just "stuff" as George Carlin would say, and that there are no casualties and everyone is OK.
University Resident, do you know the address or what kind of building it was. When I looked on Google Maps they are all screwed up oddly enough. I wonder if they scramble the maps when there is an emergency ... not the maps, the street view. I thought it was around Seneca on University?

That sounds about the right location, I had to detour around Seneca going right at University about half an hour or so ago and the big evergreen green was flaming at the top and sparking off to the left.
Glad you were not affected, though I imagine many were. What a shame. What a crummy way to have your day ruined. I hope they at least stopped if before it did too much damage.

Does anyone know the status on this now? I'm out of town right now and live at the next apartment complex over-- wanna make sure home is still there when I get back.

Fire trucks are still outside and still a fair amount of activity but the fire seems to be gone now. Don't know which side you live in but the people in the building between us and the fire were let back in some time ago.
