How Governments Spend Taxpayers' Money

Original post made by Resident, Another Palo Alto neighborhood, on Mar 23, 2010

At the time of this so called historic healthcare bill, I thought it timely to share this video to show in a humorous yet eye opening way how governments waste taxpayer money. It is the empty hospital from Yes Minister - always a good place to see satire.

Actually there is usually a very good reason for every government policy. Take the cased of the severely depleted Army I went to war with. The democrats were busy spending the peace dividend in May of 1950 when it was discovered that, at the end of the fiscal year, we would have more gasoline money and more paint money than required. Money not expended was deducted from next year's expenditure, which of course could not be allowed. All hands and the cook were therefore put to work painting the barracks with a mixture half paint, half gasoline.
I am told by those who followed us through Fort Lewis that most of our paint job peeled in the next few months.
