Is this really a Stanford fund raising drive?

Tonight during supper we received a phone call allegedly from Stanford University soliciting money for "poor students" and particularly athletes. This doesn't sound like something Stanford would do, it sounds suspicious, and it reads like a scam. No one in our household is a Stanford alum, so we don't get the usual alum money requests. Has anyone else received a similar phone call?
