PALO ALTOCity leaders in this enclave, which Stanford University and many Silicon Valley executives call home, are trying to bolster the local economy by persuading more business travelers to stay for the weekend. But so far, few visitors have taken the bait.
Dubbed Destination Palo Alto, the projectwhich launched in late 2008was designed to encourage visitors to remain in town from Friday to Sunday, a time when traffic to area hotels tends to drop. City officials also wanted more visitors to stay in hotels in Palo Alto itself rather than in neighboring Silicon Valley towns.
