Does anyone know if there's a tax on taxi/limo rides from PA to the SJ airport? I was charged one and just wanted to verify that it's valid. The vendor also charged a fee for tolls, of which there were none, hence my skepticism.

Yes, there is almost always an airport tax when you are driving to or from an airport in a taxi. Before the driver goes anywhere, that meter starts at 3.50. The airport charges the taxis, and they pass it on to you. Not sure about the tolls, that sounds a bit bogus.
You should call Yellow Cab and ask for their flat-rates to and from SJC airport - it's 45 dollars, and if you are at all affiliated with Stanford (student, staff, faculty), I believe it is 35. (At least this is what it used to be last academic year.)
