I don't know if anybody saw it, but the Daily News did a story about Kwanzaa where none other than Peter Evans was the subject of the story. The same Peter Evans who was recalled from the Sanitary District board. The same Peter Evans who threw a coffee cup at an Asian American lawyer during a san board meeting, and made an anti-Semitic slur to Linda Law during a Council meeting. The same Peter Evans who is now the subject of a harassment report that the Council is reviewing. This recent Weekly story Web Link gives some of this history.
Was the Daily News trying to be funny or are they that stupid?

Saying they were being funny is generous. This was just bad judgment. My guess is that it went down something like this: Some PC editor said, "Oh crap, we have to do a story about Kwanzaa!" Why they have to do a story about it, who knows? But that's what PC people do -- things that make them feel like they're not prejudiced. Anyway, they can't find anybody who celebrates it except this kook. The reporter, looking for an easy way to get his job done, decides to call Evans, who is only too happy to try and rehabilitate this reputatlion.

The Daily News has been going steadily downhill in the past year or so. It's sad. I used to make a point of getting it every morning, and I used to see lots of people doing the same. Now nobody cares. (Too bad the Weekly hasn't stepped up to the plate and tried to fill the void---we're a town with a half-ass weekly and a half-ass daily.)
