Beyond the Call opening Dec. 1
Movies, posted by Gloria Schulz, a resident of another community, on Nov 18, 2006 at 5:19 pm

A unique documentary that was recently screened at the UN Association Film Festival @ Stanford will be opening at the Landmark Embarcadero in SF on Dec. 1, and if it does well will go nationwide. This movie is about 3 ex-military men who place themselves at risk to deliver medical and humanitartian assistance to people in war-torn areas of the world. The footage shows some of the most spectacular but remote regions of the world, and was filmed by the creators of the Academy Award nominated Genghis Blues. The stars have been described as a cross between Mother Theresa and Indiana Jones, who are just as funny as they are inspiring. After having an opportunity to meet the filmmaker and one of the stars, I have started exploring how I can assist in the mission by donating unused but opened supplies that can no longer be used in the intensive care unit where I work to be resterilized and sent on these missions. Anyone wishing to meet the filmmaker and Ed Artis (one of the men featured in this film) should consider attending one of the opening weekend evening screenings at which they will be available to answer questions. The stars' motto is "Doing good while having high adventure", and they really seem to succeed in this regard.
