Andale Taqueria closing
Restaurants, posted by Sue Dremann, staff writer, Palo Alto Weekly, a resident of another community, on Jan 26, 2009 at 10:12 am

People are asking about the sudden closing of Andale Taqueria on University Avenue, a big loss for Andale fans.

Andale was another victim of the financial crisis. I interviewed the manager about a month ago and she said it had been really dead at night. Lunch was sometimes better. I, too, thought they still did a pretty good business, but I guess they just decided to throw in the towel.

When gas prices went up, they raised their prices. I think that made some frequent customers cut back.

Andale lovers can still get their fix at two other locations that are staying open, but you'll have to travel. According to an employee at one of their other locations, Los Gatos and San Francisco International Airport restaurants remain open.

Lulus is better. It's opening a new location at Town and Country. Darwinism I guess.

Andale's was a long time favorite of downtown Palo Alto office workers who could walk to inexpensive lunch restaurants. I guess now that high rents are forcing restaurants to raise prices and also forcing employers to leave the downtown area, all the cheaper restaurants are having trouble making ends meet.

"Lulus is better" Says you?

Well, let's analyze the facts. Andale is closing. Lulu's is going from one location to two locations. Sounds like Lulu's is getting plenty of business and perhaps Andale wasn't.

I bet the rent at Lulu's locations is quite a bit different from University Ave.

vs.

Go to Lulu's some night - different story...

Don't fight the facts.

Andale was total suburban blanco mex food. Businesses come and go in downtown PA, see ya andale. Maybe we'll get a nice rug store?

I've never been to Lulu's but it will now forever remind me of Rob and George and the other posters here who make me lose my appetite! geez, what is it with you guys? so angry that you need to take it out on a closing business? Maybe you've been having too many tequilas at Lulus.

Andale was one of my family's great options, we'll miss it!

Andale was great - although I find it hilarious that another commenter suggests a rug store. How many are there already on University?
