Gran Torino

Original post made by Dick Givens on Jan 19, 2009

Over the years I have read the movie reviews of Ms. Aufmuth. It is apparent that she works diligently at her craft and her opinions are to be respected. It is oviouse that she trys to "get something" or "take something away" from a film and pass it on to the consumer. A life lesson or message perhaps.

Many of us spend countles weekday hours dealing with the mean things people do to each other and by Friday are up to our ears in "life lessons". I found Gran Torino a great escape. The Good Guys won and the Bad Guys lost. I got that much out of it, plus half bag of pop corn.

A simple rule I follow is: If Ms. Aufmuth pans it-see it.

This was a great movie!

I will, from this point forward, make my movie choices based on the inverse of what Aufmuth says. [Portion removed due to disrespectful comment or offensive language].

Gran Torino was one of about 4 Eastwood movies that are more than just entertaining or formulaic. it was lacking the hero that was a criminal, element; or the fake fighting where the hero emerges unscathed because he is the hero of the movie. It was one of Eastwood's best with a good message and a truthful critique on what ails the US.
