Davey's homecoming is special
Sports, posted by Editor, Palo Alto Online, on Dec 24, 2008 at 12:05 pm

I’m Santa Clara alum who was deeply disappointed in my alma mater when football was dropped. The university lost part of its heritage with that move, and I believe the athletic department leadership has been adrift since Carroll Williams’ departure.

Dick Davey should have been allowed the benefits of the new financial support infused into the basketball program after his ouster. The stories of the players and leaders on his last teams are a testament to his coaching abilities. How many of us enjoyed the embarrassment Davey caused the athletic department by his final Santa Clara team winning a conference championship, while the department was promising a brighter future!

I wish Davey the best of luck. He belongs as Santa Clara Athletic Director when he chooses to hang up his coaching shoes.
