Street robbery suspect may be arraigned today

Original post made on Nov 20, 2008

Jeffrey Smith, the Palo Alto man arrested Tuesday night after a failed street robbery in Palo Alto and a successful one in Menlo Park, will be arraigned in San Mateo County Superior Court at 1:30 p.m. today if there is sufficient evidence to charge him, San Mateo County Chief Deputy District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe said.

Does anyone know if the apartment search turned up evidence linking this man to other robberies? I am curious to know. I would estimate that the charges stemming from Tuesdays crimes would be sufficient to hold him, so the police may refrain from filing further charges even if they have evidence for now. (I believe that this is a standard tactic to allow further investigation and have back-up charges ready in case something goes wrong with the current charges.) So I am wondering, did they find anything?

The article states that the cops can't comment on what was found/not found. Since he's currently bound up w/the SM Co. charges, that should keep him a bit while PA gets their case together to go to the DA. Woo hoo!

"one count of possession of narcotic paraphernalia"

What does that mean? What kind of narcotic? I am phobic about meth. Was it a meth pipe?

My first post in this thread was typed into an ongoing thread on this topic from the previous article. While I was typing the thread got moved and the my post now looks out of place. Sorry about that.

Meth, crack, heroin - who knows? Not sure when/if all the details will be public.

From what I understand, meth is 100% addictive on the first use, unlike other drugs. It is also very debilitating and destructive in many ways. If someone slips your kid anything else and he uses it once, there is hope. With meth, hope is greatly diminished to non-existant. That scares me to death.

I wish they would post the suspect's address. I live on Alma and would like to know if he lived nearby.

Did he look like the guy in the police sketch? Was he - God forbid- black? OOPs... better go resign from my job because I said black. Thank the chief for getting this guy before the door hits her on her way out.

Thanks Wow. I live right off of Loma Verde and one of the purse snatchings happened right around the corner so my wife had not been sleeping well lately.

Meth is NOT 100% addictive with one dose.

pepperspray,

a member of our family heard a radio report the suspect was, in fact, black.

shame to lose a good police chief based on an accurate assessment of a situation.

plus, this guy is a PALO ALTO resident, so everyone complaining from other jurisdictions can all pipe down.

i remain,
digusted
